Electrical and PV protection
Protecting a solar installation, from panel to consumer unit
A photovoltaic installation adds an energy source to the consumer unit, and with it new risks. Electrical protection starts with a circuit breaker sized on the inverter output current, backed by residual current protection. Some inverters and EV chargers can produce DC leakage currents that blind a standard RCD: the SCB3LE-63B type B RCBO detects them. Connected to the roof panels as well as to the grid, the equipment is also exposed to lightning on both sides, hence the SCS-40 type 2 surge protector in the consumer unit.
Next come the devices that keep the installation available. The SCS6-N6VA2 relay disconnects the supply when the voltage of a phase drifts, before appliances suffer, and restores it on its own. The SCTS2-63 transfer switch moves to a generator or an off-grid inverter in under 50 ms when the grid goes down. Finally, the SCH8-40 contactor lets a water heater run on surplus production without its load passing through the control module. The whole range fits a 35 mm DIN rail and meets IEC and EN standards.
Solenso x SOLARC electrical protection means a safe consumer unit, a solar installation that keeps producing and a single contact in France.
