Modular contactor
SOLARC SCH8-40
SWITCHES WATER HEATERS, HEATING, PUMPS AND LIGHTING FROM THE CONSUMER UNIT
- AC-7a Current
- 40 A
- AC-7b Current
- 18 A
- Coil
- 230 V AC, 50/60 Hz
- Contacts
- 2 NO, 1 NO + 1 NC or 2 NC
Three contact configurations
SCH8-40/20 with two normally open contacts, SCH8-40/11 with one open and one closed, SCH8-40/02 with two normally closed contacts. Two modules wide on DIN rail.
For building services
Switches lighting, heating, ventilation, pumps and water heaters. 40 A in AC-7a for slightly inductive loads, 18 A in AC-7b for household motors.
Solar surplus control
Driven by an energy management module, the contactor starts the water heater when solar production exceeds consumption. The module only drives the coil, the contactor switches the load.
Compliant with building standards
Compliant with IEC/EN 61095 and IEC 60947-4-1, CE marking. 250 V operating voltage, 500 V insulation voltage, 230 V AC coil at 50 or 60 Hz.

Frequently asked questions
Why use a contactor to control a water heater?
A 3,000 W water heater element draws about 13 A for hours. The relays in home automation modules and energy managers are not designed for that continuous duty. The module drives the contactor coil, which handles 40 A on a resistive load and switches the power instead.
Discover the Solenso Shelly EMSNormally open or normally closed contacts?
With normally open (NO) contacts, the circuit is only powered while the coil is energised: this suits forced operation or starting on solar surplus. With normally closed (NC) contacts, the circuit is powered permanently and the control cuts it: this is the principle of load shedding.
