SOLARC SCS-40 type 2
TYPE 2 AC SURGE PROTECTOR FOR 230/400 V CONSUMER UNITS, WITH PLUG-IN MODULES
- Maximum Current
- Imax 40 kA
- Protection Level
- Up ≤ 1.8 kV
- Nominal Current
- In 20 kA
- Voltage Uc
- 275 V AC
Type 2 protection for the consumer unit
The surge protector diverts to earth the transient surges caused by lightning and grid switching before they reach your appliances. Compliant with IEC/EN 61643-11, for 230/400 V networks, from 1P to 4P.
Every earthing system
Suits TN-S, TN-C, TT and IT systems. Maximum continuous operating voltage Uc of 275 V.
Replacement without dismantling
Plug-in modules with indicator: green in service, red to replace. The cartridge is changed without removing the base or rewiring.
Response in under 25 ns
Flame-retardant reinforced nylon enclosure UL94 V-0, IP20, from -40 to +80 °C. 16 to 35 mm² earth conductor, 35 mm DIN rail mounting.

Frequently asked questions
Is a surge protector required in a solar installation?
Wiring rules make it mandatory in some cases, notably when the building has a lightning rod or stands in an area heavily exposed to lightning, and call for a risk assessment in the others. A solar installation is particularly sensitive: the inverter links the roof panels to the consumer unit and is exposed to surges on both sides.
Type 1, type 2 or type 3 surge protector: which one?
Type 1 carries part of a direct lightning current and is required with a lightning rod. Type 2, like the SCS-40, protects the main consumer unit against surges coming through the grid: it is the most common protection in homes. Type 3 completes type 2 close to sensitive appliances far from the consumer unit.
Is a surge protector also needed on the DC side?
Yes, when the cables coming down from the panels are long or exposed. The DC side needs a dedicated photovoltaic surge protector, sized for the voltage of the panel strings. The SOLARC range includes models up to 1,500 V DC, presented in the downloadable catalogue.
